The practice

A space that honors who you are, and supports what's ready to change.

There are moments that ask for more than someone to listen. Sometimes it's a divorce, a career pivot, unexpected grief, or the quiet sense that something has to change. These call for active support and a change process that meets you exactly where you are. Whether through coaching, licensed therapy, or an in-person wellness intensive, the work stays the same: deep compassion, steady support through change, and a plan that actually moves you forward.

What I offer

Four ways to work together

One practice, four distinct paths. Coaching to move forward, counseling to heal what's underneath, and in-person retreats and EMDR intensives when you're ready to go deeper.

A short discovery call to make sure it's the right fit — no pressure, no paperwork. Just a conversation.

About me

Hi, I'm Emily Powers.

Emily Powers smiling in a lush Hawaiian jungle

I'm Emily Powers — a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) and a Board Certified Coach in training, with full LMHC licensure and BCC credentials close on the horizon. I specialize in trauma and PTSD, mood disorders, and life transitions.

My primary tool for trauma is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), supported by somatic work. For complex trauma, we integrate internal family systems and a person-centered approach.

I love EMDR because it is a neurological treatment that differs substantially from talk therapy. That's why working together is often a good fit for people who have been in therapy for years: you understand everything cognitively, but you're still reacting. That is where our work begins.

I specialize in trauma partly because I've lived it. I know what it is like to feel raw, out of control, and unsure which way is up. I also know what it takes to come back. Holding someone through that exact turn, from raw to steady, is what I love most about this work. I'll hold the container with warmth and witness you fully, but I'm here for movement. If we're working together, we are moving towards healing and change. Your goals always come from you. We become a team that gets you there.

My own way here

How I found this work.

I treat trauma partly because I've lived it. Here's the short version of how I got here, and why I built my practice around movement, nature, and real change.

Emily recovering in the hospital after her car accident

My story

At eighteen, a car accident nearly ended my life. I was extremely injured, and once I'd healed physically, I quickly realized my mind hadn't caught up. Nightmares, panic attacks in cars, and the sense that I lost who I was… I know from the inside just how disorienting an active trauma response can be.

Therapist and client seated during a session, clipboard in hand

Finding EMDR

I found a good therapist who introduced me to EMDR, and my life changed. It desensitized the panic around driving, ended the nightmares, and helped me find my way back to myself. I understand what you're going through. Having been on the other side of treatment is part of what makes me a great provider to help guide you through it now.

Emily sitting on the shoreline overlooking a lush Hawaiian cove

Hawaii and nature immersion

Part of my training was completed at a residential program in Hawaii. I watched people arrive depleted and come back to life through sunshine, movement, soil under their fingernails, and time surrounded by nature. Healing happens differently when it's held in an environment like this, and the integrating spirit of aloha is a powerful differentiator for real change.

A plant-filled workspace with a laptop open

The practice today

Today I'm an integrative, person-centered therapist who leans on EMDR, IFS, and somatic work. I am not a guru with magical answers; you're always the expert in you. I hold the container with warmth, accountability, and clinical expertise while we help you move toward the life you actually want.

How I work

Trauma-informed, always

Whether we're coaching or in clinical work, pacing and consent come first. Nothing is forced.

Individualized care

No template. I build the work around you, your goals, and the season you're actually in.

Honest about fit

If I'm not the right person, you get a direct, competent referral — not left to figure it out alone.

Values & mission

Compassion meets evidence-based care.

Interwoven tree roots on the forest floor

The mission

Our mission is to help make the world a better place, one person at a time. We believe individual healing is where that change begins, and healing happens through active, consent-driven partnership, not passive conversation.

Whether through trauma-informed counseling, coaching, or immersive intensives, treatment here is collaborative, respectful, and built to create real, lasting change.

What we stand on

Aerial view of waves breaking onto a sandy shore
01

Trauma-Informed at the Core

Every modality (counseling, coaching, intensives, EMDR) is delivered through a trauma-informed lens. Informed consent is central to goals, pacing and how treatment is delivered. Working together creates a corrective experience that directly counters the helplessness trauma often instills.

Close-up of a rippling ocean wave at dusk
02

Client as Expert, Collaborative Team

You will always be treated as the expert on yourself. Expertise in trauma or psychology is what's brought to the table alongside that. Treatment is a partnership, every time. We pull from the client's own knowledge and existing strengths, building on what's already there, not constructing someone new.

Waves at sunset with swimmers silhouetted against the horizon
03

Unconditional Positive Regard & Respect

Rooted in Adlerian philosophy, we hold an assumption of good faith for anyone showing up to do the work. To be under our care is to be seen, respected, and held with warmth, while still being challenged and held accountable to your goals, not anyone else's.

Aerial view of turquoise water meeting a rocky shoreline
04

Change-Oriented & Results-Driven

This isn't circling the same story for years. Real work leads to real, measurable change — chosen by you, and monitored actively. Warm accountability for movement is part of the container we provide.

Sunrise over a calm turquoise shoreline with palms
05

Psychoeducation & Reframing

Helping you understand your symptoms is a form of respect. We can help explain what's been happening to you and why. This can help dismantle beliefs like “I'm broken” or “I'm not good enough,” reframing struggles as health concerns rather than personal failings.

Sunlight rippling through clear turquoise shallows
06

Experiential & Immersive Treatment

Change happens through active experience, not just conversation. We deeply value experiences such as travel, green space, nervous system regulation, immersive intensives. These research backed interventions create distinct before/after markers and grounding outside normal patterns; treatment with a beginning and an end once goals are met.

If that resonates, let's talk.

The 90-Day Reset

A coaching program designed to support people navigating life transitions. 90 days. Weekly sessions. A container to define and start major change. Warm, structured, and individualized, built to move you from feeling stuck toward the life you actually want.

This is a coaching program, not psychotherapy. This program is available to clients throughout the U.S. and internationally.

01 — What this is

Not generic life coaching.

It's a structured, held container for those in the middle of a life transition. This is a partnership that helps you recenter and define an individualized plan, so you can move through the hard season with steady support and real momentum toward the life you want.

Forward-moving, not just processing

Actively rebuilding clarity on identity, values, and next steps. This is focused work with direction, not open-ended, indefinite talk.

A defined start and end

90 days creates accountability and momentum. Together we define and commit, so you get clear on the changes you're making and the person you're building toward.

Flexible and private

No diagnosis, no treatment plan, no insurance paper trail. It stays accessible regardless of your state of residence.

Accountability for healing

A structured space to keep showing up for yourself. Not just talk, but someone to help you find a plan and walk with you through it.

Golden tiger orchids in soft tropical light

Ninety days isn't the deadline. It's the container for real change. 90 days gives us time to recenter, define goals, and facilitate your growth into the person you've always wanted to be.

The differentiator

Held by a licensed mental health professional, not a random internet coach.

The work is grounded in real clinical training. Designed by someone with a master's degree in clinical counseling psychology, this program integrates coaching psychology, motivational interviewing, person-centered and strengths-based approaches. All work will be trauma-informed.

  • If something deeper or clinical surfaces, it can be named and addressed in real time — not missed.
  • For clients in WA or HI, this can integrate directly into psychotherapy if that becomes the right path.
  • If coaching isn't the right fit, you get a direct, competent referral — not left to figure it out alone.

The safety net most coaches can't offer — and most therapists don't position as a coaching product.

02 — Who it's for

You might recognize yourself here.

  • The person who just left a relationship and doesn't recognize their own life anymore.
  • The one circling the same questions at 11pm: Who am I? What do I actually want? What have I done with my life?
  • The high-achiever who looks completely fine from the outside and is unraveling underneath.
  • Someone who's done ‘the work’ before and is looking for deeper, individualized support from someone qualified.

Coaching questions

About the 90-Day Reset

What is the 90-Day Reset coaching program?

A focused 90-day coaching program, 12 weekly sessions, designed for people navigating a major life transition who want a clear start, a clear end, and real movement. It is built and held by a licensed mental health provider, so what surfaces is met with genuine clinical depth. The investment is $3,000.

Is online coaching available outside Washington and Hawaii?

Yes. Coaching carries no license restriction, so it is available to clients anywhere in the U.S. or internationally, delivered online.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching is forward-moving and action-oriented and is not mental-health treatment. Because it is held by a licensed therapist, anything clinical that surfaces can be recognized and addressed — but the work itself is coaching, available worldwide. If you're in WA or HI and want clinical care, see Therapy & Counseling.

What does the 90-Day Reset cost?

The program is a $3,000 investment for the full 90 days. Payment plans of $1,000 per month are available. If a client would like to continue coaching afterward, sessions are $175 moving forward.

Do you do coaching outside of the 90-Day Reset?

Yes, we can arrange individualized support. Please email to discuss a consultation to determine a coaching relationship.

Specializations

Where I focus

I specialize in treating trauma and PTSD, life transitions, and mood disorders — alongside more common conditions such as anxiety and depression. My approach is integrative and person-centered, built on EMDR, somatic work, and internal family systems. I'm often a great fit when you've talked something through for years but still react.

EMDR

A neurological treatment, not just talk therapy. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for reprocessing trauma, stressful stimuli, and the patterns your body still reacts to. It's a good fit for those who understand what happened to them yet feel confused about why they're still reacting.

Life transitions

Divorce, career pivots, identity shifts, grief. I meet you in the in-between that no one prepares you for.

Mood disorders

Depression, bipolar, and other mood concerns, met with clinical depth, expertise, monitoring, and warmth. I'm here to help you stabilize and create the life you've dreamed of, while managing symptoms.

Other mental health conditions

An assessment is included to see if working together is a good fit for your needs. I will always refer out for conditions that are outside of my scope.

Therapy questions

Q&A

Where do you provide therapy and counseling?

Licensed psychotherapy is available only to clients physically located in Washington State and Hawaii. Coaching, which is not a medical treatment, is available worldwide.

What do you specialize in?

Trauma and PTSD, life transitions, and mood disorders, alongside more common conditions such as anxiety and depression. The primary method for treatment of trauma is EMDR, supported by somatic work and internal family systems.

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a neurological, evidence-based treatment for trauma. It is very different than traditional talk therapy. This is often a good fit for people who understand their experience but still react to it and feel stuck.

How does EMDR actually work?

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to reduce the body's stress or arousal response to triggering stimuli, helping the brain reprocess and rewire difficult experiences more efficiently. It is distinct from talk therapy and is backed by a substantial body of research. EMDR is recognized by the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for PTSD. I have been fully trained through an EMDRIA-certified program.

Can I do EMDR as an intensive instead of weekly sessions?

Yes. For accelerated processing, an EMDR intensive concentrates the work into a condensed, carefully paced format in person in Hawaii. There is a heavy focus on assessment, safety, and stabilization before an intensive format, and EMDR, including intensives, is always considered a medical treatment. Learn more about the EMDR 2-Day Intensive.

How much is a therapy session?

Sessions are $175 and cash pay. There is no diagnosis on record unless you want one, and no insurance paper trail. Superbills can be provided upon request for those who want to negotiate with their providers directly for reimbursement.

01 — What EMDR is

Reprocessing, not just talking.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) uses bilateral stimulation to reduce the body's stress or arousal response to triggering stimuli. It is especially effective for trauma, breakups, and other difficult experiences, and it helps the brain reprocess and rewire more efficiently.

It is distinct from talk therapy and backed by a substantial body of research. EMDR is recognized by the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association as an effective treatment for PTSD.

For when you understand it and still react

EMDR reaches what insight alone cannot. It works on the response your body still holds, not just the story in your head.

Best for acute events, adaptable for more

Intensives are most efficient for acute traumatic events, but can also chip away at complex trauma over time. Assessment is included as part of your intensive package, working through multiple targets.

Screened for fit, first

An initial assessment and consultation determines whether the intensive format is clinically appropriate for you before we begin.

EMDR questions

EMDR & the intensive, explained

What is EMDR?

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation to reduce the body's stress or arousal response to triggering stimuli. It's especially effective for trauma, breakups, and other difficult experiences, and helps the brain reprocess and rewire more efficiently. It is distinct from talk therapy and is backed by a substantial body of research.

What is an EMDR intensive?

An EMDR intensive is a concentrated way to work through a significant amount of processing in a shorter timeframe. Intensives tend to be most efficient for acute traumatic events, though they can also be used to chip away at complex trauma over time. An initial assessment and consultation will determine whether someone is a good candidate.

Where do the intensives take place?

In person in Hawaii, where Emily is fully licensed to practice, at two locations: Big Island and Oahu. They typically run as a two-day workshop and can be customized for your individual needs.

How much does the 2-day intensive cost?

The investment is $3,750 and is private pay. It does not include accommodations. Out-of-state clients can reach out to coordinate a customized travel and lodging plan.

Is this the same as the wellness retreat?

No. The EMDR intensive is focused one-on-one clinical trauma treatment in Hawaii. The Costa Rica wellness retreat is an immersive group experience in a destination setting. They're different offerings for different needs.

01 — The positioning

Where healing takes root.

This experience serves as a powerful step on your healing journey after traumatic exposure. Held on a Blue Zones coast, this beachfront retreat integrates green space immersion, natural movement, and rest — the setting itself is part of the medicine. If you're looking to process or heal from trauma more deeply, an EMDR intensive or a referral to a trauma-informed psychotherapy provider may be the right next step.

Understand how trauma lives in the body

Leave with a deeper sense of how it has shaped your patterns, responses, and relationships.

Clarity on your nervous system

Licensed clinicians are there to help you identify your triggers and explore the tools available to you. Psychoeducation on modalities such as EMDR, exposure, somatics, and nervous system regulation is designed to give you information from someone who hears your individual story. We cannot administer these interventions on-site, but would be happy to explore support following the retreat.

Individual Sessions with Licensed Clinician

Every day, participants meet with a licensed therapist to help create and support their individual healing process.

Group Experiences

Connecting with others who understand what you're going through — healing that takes place in community.

Patterned tropical peacock-plant leaves

Healing moves differently in a place this alive — away from the noise, surrounded by people who understand.

02 — Who this is for

A container that can hold acute or complex trauma.

Whether you're in the aftermath of a single event — a car accident, a one-time assault — or carrying the cumulative weight of years of relational or developmental trauma, the modalities and pacing are thoughtfully structured to meet you where you are.

Every guest has individualized support from their assigned therapist each day. Consent is central throughout, and activities such as yoga are trauma-informed.

This retreat is a jump start.

A chance to better understand your experience, build resourcing, and leave with greater clarity and capacity than on arrival. We provide thoughtful psychoeducation on trauma and nervous-system regulation in a restorative, natural environment — and we let people connect, be human, and heal.

This intensive focuses on trauma recovery and is a great first step for those looking to move out of trauma reactions and feeling stuck. It blends individual therapeutic sessions with group activities, somatic practices, and thoughtful nature immersion. This event is held by licensed mental health professionals.

Who is the retreat for?

People carrying acute or complex trauma who want a guided step forward after traumatic exposure. Every guest is screened in a brief intake conversation to make sure the container is the right level of support.

Does the retreat cure trauma?
